HIS CHARACTER

GOD.REVEALING.HIMSELF.TO.HIS.PEOPLE_ CLEVELAND.OH SUNDAY_ 50-0813E, E-26 And He walked, and He looked up to me with kind... He looked pathetic to look at Him. And He looked like He was a man of... Well, I just could not picture His characteristics of His--of His character in His face. He looked like a Man that was sympathetic, kind-hearted. But yet He looked like a Man, if He'd speak, it would be that way.

So I looked at Him, and He looked at me. I was so scared that I--I was biting my thumbnail till it was almost bleeding. Listen, friend. You'd be too. Don't think you wouldn't. And I was right and...?... like that.

He said, "Fear not."

JESUS.CHRIST.THE.SAME.YESTERDAY_ JONESBORO.AR WEDNESDAY_ 53-0506, E-11 And then in Saint John the 5th chapter, and beginning about the 19th verse:

Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I said unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show you greater works than these, that you may marvel.'

And now, in Hebrews 13:8 said:

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

May God add His blessings to His Word. I would just like tonight, being that our theme and subject and our heart, and all that we have, and live for is Jesus Christ... I would like to speak a little about Him, of His character, and what He was. The Scriptures...

LOOKING.FOR.JESUS_ PHOENIX.AZ SUNDAY_ 54-0228E, E-23 Where would He be? Out in the great shining lights? No. He would be amongst the humble. "The common people heard Him gladly," said the Scripture. The priests and so forth wouldn't listen to Him. They had their own ideas, their own churches, their own set-up, so they didn't listen.

What kind of a Man would He be then? Would He be a--a real overbearing sort of a person? No. I don't believe He would. I believe He'd be a kind person. And I--I believe He would--He would be so kind, that when He spoke to you, you'd know it was Him speaking, and yet He would be firm enough till you would know that... Like when He plaited the ropes together and beat them out of the temple for doing something wrong. So, He would be a--a... quite a... No, I don't believe no artist could paint His character. But He would be a very sweet Person for us to see, wouldn't He? No matter what He would look like or anything.

SEAL.OF.GOD_ JEFF.IN V-26 N-4 FRIDAY_ 54-0514, 121 God takes His man, but never His Spirit. He taken Elijah, and His Spirit come upon Elisha; several hundred years later, it come upon John the Baptist; predicted again in the last day.

The Devil takes his character, but never his spirit. That same religious teacher that condemned Jesus Christ because of His miracles and signs and wonders, and differed with Him on the Scripture, was flat enough to come and tell Him about it. That same spirit lives right down in ecclesiastical teachers today, for it's foreordained of God to come into that condemnation. That's what the Bible said. "Men of old, foreordained to this condemnation, to turn the grace of our Lord into lasciviousness." That's exactly right. In Jude the 3rd--the 3rd verse of--of Jude, you can find it. That's right.

MANIAC.OF.GADARA_ CHICAGO.IL TUESDAY_ 54-0720A

E-52 And I see Him in His work as He was tossed there in this little old sea. And one soul was in need over there. We never have a--a record of anyone else being helped in the land of the Gadarenes, but this one maniac. Poor fellow, I think of him being out there in--in that condition, perhaps one time a good citizen, a good man.

Let's dramatize it a moment in his character. I can imagine seeing him as a fine fellow. But the first thing you now, some of the crowd come along and got him to get away from church, or go away from God. Next thing you know, the devil had him on the next step; he started drinking. One drink, one devil. Just kept on, backsliding, going away.

INFALLIBLE.WORD.OF.GOD_ CHICAGO.IL FRIDAY_ 56-0406

E-19 And a man's character is shown in his works. Or a man shows his--his character by his works. We know that. Just like a contractor, a contractor shows what he is by his work. For instance, if we was going to have a great building built here in the city of Chicago, the first thing the officials of the city board would do, they would try to select a contractor. Just not any one that run in and said, "Well, I can do the job, all right," they're going to get a contractor that's got a reputation. And now, because if they didn't, maybe another contractor would underbid that contractor. But he would put in the building bad material, and perhaps he would build it thousands of dollars less. And then we come to find out that the building collapsed. The first storm hit it, it went down. What do you think the city would think about that contractor? It would ruin his reputation forever. That's right.

ELIJAH_ PHOENIX.AZ TUESDAY_ 55-0301, E-9 Now, our scene begins tonight upon a family in distress. And perhaps, this would be a good thing tonight to recognize that there's, perhaps, many families setting here tonight in distress.

And if we can only find something in the Old Testament here, which was an example of what believers done in that day when in distress, why, perhaps, maybe we can take them as an example and find our position then and what to do.

In the days of Elijah the prophet... After last night we seen that he was a type of the church. After Elijah, being the type of Christ taken away, and the double coming up on the prophet... We find that he made his way up to a Gentile country, Shunem. And there was a noble woman up there. And she was not an Israelite; she was a Shunammite.

And Elijah passing through this country, she taken notice to him that he was a holy man, a man of God. What a lesson we could get out of that, that we--our walk and our associations with people, that people would recognize that we were children of the King. God help us to be that way.

I believe the Scripture says that, "We are written epistles read of all men." And Elisha so conducted hisself around in that Gentile country there, that this Shunammite woman realized that he was truly a servant of God. His character, his conduct, and the things that God did by him, that she recognized him to be a servant of the Lord. So she wanted to show some kindness to him. So she had him come over for dinner, or whatmore, give him a little offering, help him pay for something. Treated him kind, not because she wanted any reward.

RAISING.JAIRUS.DAUGHTER_ SHREVEPORT.LA TUESDAY_ 56-0731, E-28 Oh, how wonderful. Then this maniac run down to Him and the Lord Jesus rebuked them spirits. And a lot of people say that religion will run you crazy, not the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ won't. It'll give you your right mind. And you're not in your right mind until you have met the Lord Jesus. That's true.

Why, some people that call themselves gentleman, but so beastly till they'd throw a baby out of the mother's arms to ravish her or beast brute lust in his heart. Maybe weigh two hundred and fifty pounds of muscles like some kind of an animal; that ain't a man. That's a beast. Certainly. Man is not measured by his muscles or by his statue. A man is measured by his character. Whatever he is, he is by character.

There was no beauty that as I said, we should desire Jesus but what a character. It's never been duplicated in all the world. That's right.

So a Bible even said when we looked upon Him, they... He wasn't no beauty we should desire Him. We all turned our heads from Him and everything, but a character has never been measured to Him. What a wonder.

PAINTED.FACE.JEZEBEL_ CHICAGO.IL FRIDAY_ 56-1005, E-15 I've always said, "Let me go into a man's house." And let him stand out on the street and testify, sing, shout, speak with tongues, dance in the Spirit, anything he wants to do; let me go into his house and look at these old pin-up girls all around the wall... Let me look at these magazines that he's reading here on his desk, and listen at him turn the radio on to some of that African nonsense of rock-and-roll and boogie-woogie, I can tell you right now what kind of a spirit he's got. See what it feeds on? I don't care how much he carries on out there on the street, here's what he's really feeding on. That's his diet. That's right.

Let me... How much... No matter how well he claims, and how good society, and what his standing, and what his social status is, that doesn't make a bit of difference. Watch what his spirit feeds on, what music he listens to, what he reads, what he looks at. You can tell what he's made out of then. And his character will always tell.

BELIEVE.FROM.THE.HEART_ JEFF.IN SUNDAY_ 57-0623, E-9

And in noticing them, then I come to this conclusion. No matter what you are, God's got to furnish the audience. And no matter, if I could stand here this morning and bring the dead to life, and to bring the cripples to their normal condition, and yet, God is not in the program it would go nowhere. God has to be in the program. And any man is known... His character is known by his works. No matter who he is, his works prove his character.

If you take a man, no matter how good he tries to be, if his works are evil, all his goodness won't mount to nothing. And a man's word is his characteristic. A man that his word is no good, then you'll never have confidence in that man, because his word's no good. So therefore God, our Father, His character and His works prove what He is.

BELIEVE.FROM.THE.HEART_ JEFF.IN SUNDAY_ 57-0623, E-13 Great movements starts, and they run out like the Methodist, the Baptist, and the Pentecostals, and all this, and the first thing you know, they get a little psychic idea, and they run out to the limb, and they're having a big time; but the first thing you know they find themselves at the end. But the only things that ever last is the eternal things. And the eternal things are God.

Now, if you notice a man known by his--his character is known by his works. If we would think of how God shows His character by His works... He's got His own character, and He made His works, and if you look at His works, how great they are.

BELIEVE.FROM.THE.HEART_ JEFF.IN SUNDAY_ 57-0623, E-46

A man's work declares his character. Christ was God's work. And Christ declared God's character, His feeling for the sick, His longing for saving of souls, till even He gave His own life. God's work... God's character was declared in Christ.

And if you can just empty your own intellectual thoughts out and give God the right of way, He can declare His character through the work of your yielding. Empty out; get the world, get your doubts out of the way.

BELIEVE.FROM.THE.HEART_ JEFF.IN SUNDAY_ 57-0623, E-66 When He come to me, I was once a sinner. And now I'm saved. I was once lost; now I'm found. I once loved the things of the world; I hate it now. I once cared not for God; I love Him now. Something happened to me. Something happened to you.

What is it? It's God's Word declaring His character. He loves us. He's interested in your welfare. He's interested in your healing. He's interested in your soul. Won't you let Him have His way in your life? Don't you doubt Him for nothing. You go believing Him, and God will give you the desire of your heart, for it's His good will to do it. He longs to do it. But the thing of it is, we get all flusterated. Stand still.

Look at it, say, "God, that means me. No matter who prays for me, what prays for me."

FROM.THE.BEGINNING.IT.WASN'T.SO_ SAN.JOSE.CA WEDNESDAY_ 59-1125, E-17 Man perverts things. That's what man is. A man is a--in his fallen estate is worse than animal. Do you believe that? It proves it. Men will do things that an animal won't do. There is man. Now, man is not muscles. Say, "Oh, he is a man." I've seen men that weighed two hundred pounds didn't have an ounce of man about them. Man is not measured by his muscles; that's beast. Man is measured by character. A man is a man by character. That's the reason Jesus was the greatest Man that ever lived. There was nothing could ever measure to His character. But the Bible said, "There was no beauty that we should... when we looked upon Him, but we hid as it were our faces from Him." He wasn't a great stately kingly looking man but probably a little stooped shouldered Fellow. We--we hid as it was our faces. He was marred. But in His character there has never been nothing that could compare with Him. He was real Man.
