TITHES

(Editor: I'm not against pastors. I'm against pastors that pervert the Word to their own good. The tithes of the laity goes to the pastor, but a minister gives his tithing to other ministers. We don't even have a true five fold ministry in this Message. All the money goes to the pastor, and the rest of the five fold ministry gets a few crumbs. Some pastors have become millionaires in this Message by taking the Quotes of the Prophet to prove that THEY SHOULD GET IT ALL! There is so much greed out there that if you don't go along with the pastor's interpretation on tithes, then you are a heathen. But the Prophet taught that we must believe ALL THE WORD, not just the Quotes that favor us.. Money grabbing is so strong out there that sometimes I wonder if any of those pastors will make it. One pastor stopped his Wednesday night services so he could go out there and preach in other chuches during the week, to make more money.)

QA.GOD.BEING.MISUNDERSTOOD_ JEFF.IN COD SUNDAY_ 61-0723E

617-Q-146 146. Brother Branham, don't you feel that everyone who claims to be a Christian should pay tithes, pay their tithes into THE STOREHOUSE of the Lord? Please give Scripture to this question.

All right, if you will... That is right, that the Bible said in Malachi the 4th chapter, "Will a man rob God? And you say, 'Where have we robbed Thee?' In tithe and offerings. Bring all your tithe and offerings into My storehouse and prove Me," saith the Lord, "if I will not open up the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that there'll not be room enough to receive."

QUESTIONS.AND.ANSWERS_ JEFF.IN COD SUNDAY_ 64-0823E

1034-Q-307 307. Should a person pay tithes to an individual, or should a Christian work?

Sure he should. He's the one man that will work, is a Christian.

"Pay tithes to an individual?" IT DEPENDS ON WHO THE INDIVIDUAL IS. See? That's right. In Hebrews 7, the first time tithings was talked about in--in a stand that we... Wait a minute, I believe, number two question. No. Uh, uh. No. For Brother... Said, "Two questions for Brother Branham."

When... In Hebrews the 7th chapter, when Abraham, returning from the slaughter of the kings met Melchisedec, he paid Him a tithe. That was Melchisedec, the King of Salem, which is King of Peace, and King of Righteousness, which was nobody but God Himself. See?

But when you pay tithings... Really, where you owe tithings is WHERE YOU GET YOUR FOOD. "Bring ye all your tithings into My storehouse, saith the Lord. (That right?) And prove Me wherein saith God, that if I'll not open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing that you would not have room enough to receive it." I challenge any man or woman that's not a tithe payer to accept that. (Editor- Some people get their food from the tapes of Bro. Branham, so they send their tithes to Jeffersonville. They use the next Quote)

GREATEST.BATTLE.EVER.FOUGHT_ JEFF.IN V-3 N-11 SUNDAY_ 62-0311

43-1 And I seen him look around to one of the brethren and said, "Are you a boatman?"

The brethren said, "Yes." See?

I said, "That's wrong."

And the boatman come back; he said, "Tell you what you do." Said, "They love you; they believe you," but said, "if you try to cross in the power boat, they'll try to follow you in that canoe; they'll both die." See? Said, "They can't follow you."

And I said, "Well, what must I do?"

And this boatman at the dock, he said, "You go back up there." Said, "THERE'S ONLY ONE LITTLE STOREHOUSE IN ALL THIS COUNTRY, ONE LITTLE STOREHOUSE. And just lay in plenty of supplies," said, "and they'll stay here. They'll--they'll stay here, while you are--while you're gone," but said, "you'll have to lay in supplies.

And I was just ordering all kinds of cabbages, and turnips, and radishes, and things, piling them in there like that; and I woke up. I didn't know what it was, but I do now. See? We're laying in the supplies, brethren. This is a life that you have to walk alone..

(Editor: Now a brother from India who was pulling for money, sent me this Quote:)

WORD.BECAME.FLESH.INDIA.TRIP_ JEFF.IN V-26 N-5 SUNDAY_ 54-1003M

83 Any "care" package you have, and you want to take advice, send it to India. I'm not nothing against Germany; they're fine people, against these other people. But, brother, sister, we only send them stuff over to build them up, and then have another war with them. See? That's right. Let's send it somewhere where it really needs to be. See? IF YOU GOT ANYTHING TO SEND, SEND IT TO INDIA. They're the ones in need. And poor, illiterate, they have natural resource, but haven't got the intelligence to know how to develop it. The only thing they know is beg; and that's what they do.

MALACHI 3:10

10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it] (Editor: But even the part time pastors want it all. Should we send it to, what the Lord said, was the only storehouse in this country? Remember Scripture cannot fight Scripture).

MALACHI 3:11

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

NEHEMIAH 10:37

37 And [that] we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage. (Editor- Levites is plural).

NEHEMIAH 10:38

38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.

WHAT.IS.THE.HOLY.GHOST_ JEFF.IN V-4 N-2 WEDNESDAY_ 59-1216

115 When God was setting in order, He said, "All you Levites, I've called you out and made you priests. And all your brethren, the other--the twelve tribes--and not--other eleven tribes will pay you a tithing."

"When you get a--nine bushels of apples, pour one bushel to the Levites. When you run your sheep through the--the hall here, pick up the tenth sheep. I don't care if it's a little one, or a big one, fat one, or poor one; that belongs to the Levites.

"Now, Levites, when you get all this, then you tithe too to the Lord. You make the wave-offering, the heave-offerings, the different offerings. You tithe to the Lord."

NUMBERS 18:26

26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, [even] a tenth [part] of the tithe.

NEHEMIAH 12:44

44 ¶ And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.

NEHEMIAH 13:5

5 And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded [to be given] to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests. (Editor- The tithes and offerings went to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters. I don't understand this Quote or how it fits in).

FAITHFUL.ABRAHAM_ LA.CA WEDNESDAY_ 59-0415E

E-57 Watch when he come back. They had a great big jubilee, homecoming time. And there was all the kings around thanking Abraham, and then they met another King, Melchisedec. He was the King of Salem which was Jerusalem: the King of peace, the King of righteousness.

Who was this great King? I want to ask you something. Who was this great King? He did not have any father. He never had a mother. He never had a beginning of days or ending of life. Who was that King that met Abraham coming home from the slaughter of the kings?

And to you people that don't believe in tithe paying, look at this. The Levitical priesthood paid tithes. And the Bible said that Levi paid tithes when he was in the loins of Abraham, and that was his great, great grandfather. And when Levi was in the loins of Abraham, when Abraham paid tithes to Melchisedec, the Bible reckoned Levi paying tithes. How ought you people to live. If your sins are visited to the children, what about your blessings?

WHY.ARE.WE.NOT.A.DENOMINATION?_ JEFF.IN V-11 N-7 SATURDAY_ 58-0927

79 And did you realize, my brother, every time you do that which is right, that'll be visited on your children?

Look here, let's take Hebrews the 7th chapter. The Bible said, when--when Melchisedec met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the king, and blessed him, and said... Now, Levi, is talking about paying tithes. Said, "Levi had an order from the Lord to receive tithes from his brethren." And Levi who received tithe paid tithe, for he was yet in the loins of Abraham when he met Melchisedec. And Abraham was his great-grandfather. Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, Jacob begot Levi; Levi, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. And while Levi was in the loins of Abraham, the Bible said he paid tithes to Melchisedec. Hallelujah.

DEUTERONOMY 26:12

12 ¶ When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, [which is] the year of tithing, and hast given [it] unto the LEVITE, the STRANGER, the FATHERLESS, and the WIDOW, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled; (Editor- There was 3 tithes in the Old Testament: (1) The first tithe was given to the Levites. (2) The second tithe was for the building, the keep the church in good condition. (3) The third tithes was as above, given to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. But that was only every third year. So the total actual tithe in the Old Testament was actually 23 and 1/3%. So we are getting off light).

HEBREWS.CHAPTER.7.PT.1_ JEFF.IN HEB SUNDAY_ 57-0915E

289-10 Now, tonight, we're starting now for a little teaching lesson. And if I'm... I don't think we'll get down (maybe we will tonight) to... This is the great chapter of teaching on tithing to the church. And it's a great subject, which we could stay on it for weeks and weeks, on that one thing: how Abraham paid tithes to MELCHISEDEC and whether it's essential.

QUESTIONS.AND.ANSWERS_ JEFF.IN COD SUNDAY_ 64-0823E

1034-184 I could stand here till in the morning, telling you just what happened when I seen that, and what condition I was in. But just as loyal as I ever could, I paid tithes. And when I took my own money from the church here or from my campaigns, I'd take more... I'd give a tenth. THEN I'D GIVE IT OUT TO THE MINISTER, and give the rest of it to ministers. Then when I couldn't do that, then the thing I did, I kept ten percent and give God ninety. And then, when the law told me I couldn't do that, I'd have to take... And if I did, it was going to be charged to it, then I had to take and bypass it into foreign missions and so forth, and then just take a wage out of that of a hundred dollars a week; and I pay my tithes from that.

Yes, sir. I believe in paying tithes. It's one of God's blessings that's proven to be a blessing. You say, "That's of the Old Testament." It is of the New Testament too. Yes, sir.

LUKE 18:12

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

LUKE 18:13

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

LUKE 18:14

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

FROM.THAT.TIME_ KLAMATH.FALLS.OR SATURDAY_ 60-0716

E-28 Thank you, my little sister, for this tithing. AS A MINISTER, I'M SUPPOSED TO RECEIVE TITHING. So, I thank you very kindly, my little girl friend. And may God ever bless you. (Editor- Ministers can receive tithing).

QUESTIONS.AND.ANSWERS_ JEFF.IN COD SUNDAY_ 61-1015M

680-Q-161 161. Would it be wrong to use tithes on church building funds?

Well now, here--here's a touchy little thing for the church now. No, correctly, TITHES IS TO GO TO THE MINISTER. That's right. In the Bible they had a box they'd set at the door in the Old Testament when the--building. This box was a fund where the people put in there for the repairing... You've read it many times in the Old Testament. They kept up the buildings and things like that... All the repairs on the buildings was taken care out of that fund. But a tenth of that went--a tenth of the tithings--ALL THE TITHINGS WENT TO THEIR PRIESTS, THEIR PASTORS. Yes, TITHINGS ARE TO GO FOR NOTHING ELSE. (Editor- That's plural, not singular, but a greedy pastor will take this Quote and others to prove that he is to get it all).

I know people take their tithes and give them to a widow woman. That's wrong. If you've got anything to give the widow woman, give her, but don't give her GOD'S MONEY. That's not yours in the first place. That's God's.

HEBREWS.CHAPTER.7.PT.1_ JEFF.IN HEB SUNDAY_ 57-0915E

310-122 Listen. And without any contradiction the less is blessed of the better. (Certainly. Watch Who He is.) And here men that die receive tithes;... (That's the priesthood of the order of PRIESTS AND PREACHERS and so forth, men that receive tithe, die. See?)... but here he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. (Editor- That's plural again. You've got to believe it all, not just your favorite Quotes).

FAITHFUL.ABRAHAM_ LA.CA WEDNESDAY_ 59-0415E

E-5 Someone, some time ago, was going to give me a large offering. He said it was a tithing, but it was too much for me; and I told him I wouldn't receive an offering like that. He said, "But Brother Branham, I must give it to you." Said, "It's tithings."

I said, "Well now, if it's tithings, it goes to God's church."

He said, "That's right."

And I said, "Well, if the Lord is giving you those tithes, He's got people somewhere to give it to. They're all out on the field everywhere." And when I know of missionaries preaching on the field with no shoes on, two meals a week, I can do without something myself. And I think we all could do that to help those poor brethren who are struggling for the cause of Christ. (Editor- Bro. Branham refused the tithes, and told him to give it to missionaries).

FAITHFUL.ABRAHAM_ SAN.JOSE.CA FRIDAY_ 59-0424A

E-11 I believe it was some great man, maybe T. L. Osborn, or somebody, that said one time that no one has the right to hear the Gospel twice while one hasn't heard it once. And that's right. But, you see, the American people's got the money. They haven't got it.

I'm a poor man. I haven't got no capital. And I go along. I've never took an offering in all my life, never did, just what people freely send me. Then I take that and hold it together, what I can, and then, as soon as I get enough built up, I take right off to the heathens and preach the Gospel with it, so... I'll have to answer for your tithing, the people that give it to me.

RESTORATION.OF.BRIDE.TREE_ JEFF.IN V-3 N-15 SUNDAY_ 62-0422

4-6 Now, the Indians... There won't be one penny of money (As you know, I never take an offering in my meetings; and I don't take money.), but the church here is--is sponsoring that meeting to the Indians. Some of your tithing money and things will go to pay, to bring this Message of salvation and deliverance to those poor, illiterate Indians. After all, they are the Americans, you know.

WATCHMAN.WHAT.OF.THE.NIGHT_ JEFF.IN SUNDAY_ 58-1130

E-71 He said, "Brother Branham, the Lord places upon my heart to give you some tithing."

"Oh," I said, "Brother, don't think of that. No," I said, "I don't need money, brother."

He said, "But I've saved up some tithings." (Oh, a little money, I forget now just exactly; I believe about fifty dollars.) He said, "The Lord placed it on my heart to give it to you."

I said, "I tell you what. I receive it, and then you turn it back and give it to little Ricky over there on his--on his hospital bill, 'cause you're a preacher. I know what it is, what money means. And you a missionary, and I know that it takes money, and you got a family, and all this doctor bills. Place it right back on little Ricky's bill."

He said, "I don't want to do that, Brother Branham. It ain't to pay doctors, it's to pay ministers."

And I said, "Yes, but I'm turning it back for you." And I refused it. And I went on up to the house, and in the matter of a few hours, them jaws went down, and its tongue went back into its normal place. God healed the little fellow. They were removing the whistle the morning that I left out of its throat. It alarmed the whole west coast.

RESTORATION.OF.BRIDE.TREE_ JEFF.IN V-3 N-15 SUNDAY_ 62-0422

3-3 The little, cute little thing was said in here in the back yard this morning, when I was going out from the sunrise service. I got a precious old friend (He's probably here somewhere; he's from Chicago.), name's Stewart (he's about... ), Ed Stewart (I guess he's in his middle seventies or better.); and he met me out there. And he saves his tithing money in dimes, and he give me a whole package of dimes, about like that, and... Oh, I don't know, I... 'COURSE, THEY GO TO FOREIGN MISSION WORK. (Editor- Bro. Branham said that those tithes would go to foreign mission work).

HEAR.YE.HIM_ SAN.JOSE.CA FRIDAY_ 59-0424E

E-10

And tonight, I sure appreciate your fine love offering which will be given me after the service. I will promise you, there won't be any cigarettes, any whiskey, anything wrong. It'll go for preaching the Gospel in Australia, and wherever the Lord will send me. And a soldier born in the Kingdom there, it'll be your credit the day that... I'm only following a leading of the Spirit. And that's... I must do that. And you're sending me--your money, your tithing is sending me.

BAPTISM.OF.THE.HOLY.SPIRIT_ JEFF.IN V-5 N-2 SUNDAY_ 58-0928M

74 I said, "What people send me." I'm looking in the face of people right now that sends me tithing continually. I never ask them; they just do it. That's the Holy Spirit. He's able to take care of His own.
